Will My Business Be Profitable?

The Meaning of a Break-Even Analysis:
The amount of revenue you'll need to generate to cover your costs before you even start to make a profit is shown by a break-even analysis. Your business has a strong possibility of becoming profitable if you can reach and surpass your break-even point, or if you can easily generate more sales revenue than you'll need to cover your expenses.

A break-even analysis is frequently used as a major technique for vetting new business endeavors by seasoned entrepreneurs. If their break-even prediction doesn't demonstrate that their predicted sales revenue vastly outweighs their operating expenditures, they won't develop a thorough business plan. The good news is that every business strategy includes a break-even analysis, Therefore, if you begin by performing a break-even analysis right away, you will have already begun developing your company plan.

Creating a Break-Even Analysis:
You'll need to hazard educated predictions about your costs and income in order to conduct a break-even analysis. To ascertain your predicted sales volume and costs, you should conduct some thorough research, including market analysis. You can learn how to make reasonable income and cost predictions via business plan books and software.

You'll need to estimate and calculate the following:
Fixed expenses. Monthly fluctuations are minimal for fixed costs, sometimes known as "overhead." They comprise utilities, utilities, insurance, and other fixed costs. In your break-even analysis, it's a good idea to include a small buffer, say 10%, to account for unforeseen costs.
Income from sales. This is the total amount of money from sales that you bring into your company every month or year. You must base your projection on the amount of business you genuinely anticipate in order to do a valid break-even analysis; do not base it on the amount of business you must generate in order to turn a healthy profit.
For each sale, the average gross profit. The amount that remains from each dollar of sales after direct expenses have been deducted is known as average gross profit.
Typical gross profit margin. You can calculate the percentage of gross profit that makes up each dollar of sales revenue. Divide your average gross profit amount by the average selling price to get your average gross profit percentage.

Your Break-Even Point Calculation:
It is simple to compute your break-even point once you have calculated the aforementioned numbers. To figure out how much in sales you must generate to break even, simply divide your expected annual fixed costs by your gross profit margin.

If You Can't Be Broken Even:
You must determine whether certain elements of your strategy can be changed in order to achieve a break-even point if your break-even point is higher than your anticipated revenues. For instance, maybe you could:

Find a cheaper source for your supplies.
Operate from home to avoid paying rent and avoid hiring staff.
Charge more for your goods or services.

You may need to abandon your business idea if you play around with the calculations and your break-even sales revenue still looks out of reach. If that's the case, be encouraged by the fact that you discovered it before investing your money—or the money of someone else—in the concept.

Additional Financial Analysis:
You should count yourself lucky if your break-even projection indicates that you will generate more income than you require to break even. However, you still need to determine how much profit your company will make and if you'll have access to enough money to cover your expenses when they're due. In conclusion, a break-even estimate is an excellent screening tool, but before you start investing actual funds in your enterprise, you need more thorough research.

To complete the financial picture of your company, your business plan should also include the extra financial predictions listed below.
A projection of profits and losses. This is a month-by-month forecast of your company's operating net profit.
A forecast of cash flow. This illustrates how much actual money you'll have available each month to cover your expenses.
A preliminary cost projection. This is the entire cost of all the expenses you will have prior to the start of your firm.

Warning: Perform a Break-Even Analysis:
You owe it to yourself to generate a break-even forecast as one of the initial phases in your company planning process, despite the fact that it could seem difficult to do so. If you want to be successful in business, you should start getting used to using cost estimates and profit margins right away. And as you can see, a realistically constructed break-even prediction will let you know whether your idea is likely to succeed, fail, or, like the majority of ideas, require revisions in order to succeed. You'll also be well ahead of the game with your company plan!

"Yoel has been responsive and attentive to our company’s best interests and needs.   He has been a valuable resource to our company.  Any company that enlists his services would be in good hands-- including our own clients.” Corporate Client Gibran Flynn - Co-Owner and Founder of Eleva Solutions, Inc., the South Florida leader of outsourced HR, Staffing, Training, and Loss Prevention.
"My name is Anastasia Yecke Gude and I am the owner of Healing Hands Therapeutic Massage LLC.  In the process of my company’s growth and expansion, I suddenly found myself a few weeks ago in need of a 1099 contractor agreement, and I needed it ASAP.  As in, the very next day!  I contacted the Law Office of Yoel Molina and his assistant put me in touch with Mo.  I sent him what I had drafted up and he replied within a few hours with suggested revisions and clarifications, as well as a few insights I had not even considered.  I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of work he provided, especially considering the time crunch I put him in (sorry, Mo!).  I definitely recommend his services to anyone in need of a good contract attorney, and I will be calling him again for future work…hopefully in less of a rush next time!"
